Meatloaf…….. Broke Version :D

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 | Tuesday, December 27, 2011

You know how meatloaf is always exotic and with totally cool ingredients, well when u are having exams and you either don’t have money or don’t have the time(well mostly money cuz that seems to disappear during the exam period) you could still enjoy really nice meatloaf with just the spices available at home! So lets be quick about this, got to study!

Ingredients:
  • minced meat/pork or a mixture of the two…… 500g
  • ketchup 150ml
  • Garlic (dry)
  • Dry Parsley (petrezselyem)
  • Basil (bazsalikom)
  • 1 bulb of Onions
  • 1 egg
  • 50g butter
  • Bayleaf (optional)
  • Stock cube (to taste)
  • Worcestershire sauce (to taste)
  • Pepper (dry)
  • If you u have bell peppers and celery you can  add them as well…..didn’t have any at home

Now most of my ingredients were dry cuz I have them as spices at home but if you have the fresh ones, rock on!

Method:
  1. Heat up the oven to 250 degrees/6 on the gas oven/200 degrees with fan
  2. Get a bowl that can contain all these ingredients, break the egg into it, whisk slightly and then set it aside
  3. Mince the Onions, the smaller they are, the better( at this point also chop up your other fresh ingredients)
  4. Take a skillet or a frying pan and heat up the butter
  5. Add the onions and fresh or dry garlic and brown them
  6. Now add all your other ingredients except the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and bayleaf
  7. When slightly cooked add the ketchup and bayleaf and let it simmer for 2 mins
  8. Everything should be done on low heat!!!!
  9. Take it off the burner after 2 mins and set aside to cool a lil
  10. Now in the bowl that has the egg, add the meat to it and mix it properly, let the egg be well distributed(this is messy cuz you would have to use your hand!) then add the mixture from above and also mx it in well and finally add the Worcestershire sauce.
  11. If you have a bread pan at this point, perfect! but if you don’t have one like me, something else could work

  13. The foil pan is perfect cuz u can mold it to suit whatever shape u want and in this case we want a bread shape for the meatloaf….
  14. Add the mixture first then mold pan and pop this in the oven
  15. Let it cook for 60 mins or if you are reeeeeeaaalllyyyy hungry, crank your oven to the highest and cook it for 45 mins
  16. Serve with whatever is available at home, ideally Mashed potatoes and Gravy( We’ll do that recipe later) but in my case I used good old fried rice Open-mouthed smile

  1. Did you use a casserole dish for this recipe, because you didn't specify. Also, how much different is this menu from the richer variety?

  3. i didnt use a casserole dish, i used an aluminium grill plate.....
Also the richer variety is "richer" cuz the above ingredients would be fresh for starters (not dried) and also it would include bread crumbs, carrots, mushrooms(my recipe), celery, bell peppers and other ingredients that i cant recall right now
