Quick and Easy: Chops and Mash

Written By Unknown on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 | Wednesday, January 04, 2012

This meal took me roughly 35 mins to make…..including prep time!!! And I must say it came out pretty amazing…..

Ingredients:
For the Chops:
  • 4-6 cut slices of pork chops ( sertes karaj) if you are buying from a big store like Tesco or Interspar, go to the butcher ask for it and tell him to slice it up, if he doesn’t understand, point it out(the name is always written on the meat) and show him the slicing motion….always works for me….or u can just cut it yourself at home into 1cm thick slices; if its from a smaller store, they usually have them prepared(chopped) in the frozen section
The Chops batter:
  • 2-3 Tbsps of Soy sauce/ Worcestershire Sauce
  • 3 Tbsps of Ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp of Sugar(white or preferable brown)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1/4 lemon (you would squeeze this into the batter mix)
  • 1 tsp Chilli (optional)
  • 1 tsp Garlic
The Mash
  • 6 Medium-sized or 4 Large Potatoes
  • 50g Butter (on the butter park u would see the 50g markings so its easy to determine)
  • 200ml Milk
  • Mixed veg (optional)
  • Dry or Fresh Parsley(petrezselyem) (Optional)

The Prepartion
  1. Pre-heat your oven to 250 degrees/5(gas)
  2. Get 2 aluminium foil pans (like the one I showed u in a previous post)
  3. place the chops in the pan and make sure they don’t overlap
  4. Mix the batter
  5. With a brush or spoon, spread half of the batter over the chops
  6. Pop this in the oven for about 15 mins
  7. While the chops are in the oven, peel your potatoes and cut them up into small cubes
  8. Boil them till the become soft
  9. strain the potatoes in a colander (sieve)
  10. reheat the pot u just used and melt the butter
  11. then add the mixed veg
  12. If you aren’t using mixed veg skip step 11, add the potatoes and parsley and begin mashing with a masher or a fork.
  13. Do not forget the pork!!!!!
  14. if at any point u reach the 15 mins mark, take the pork out of the oven and flip it, drain most of the liquid but not all of it and then using your brush/spoon spread the remaining half of your batter on it and put it back into the oven
  15. So while mashing your potatoes, gradually add the milk till you get the mash consistency you want
  16. When your pork is cooked(don’t worry you would see that it is) take it out and serve with the mash
